Strange but true (so she says)…
Just how exactly does a former Maritimer end up selling Montreal West Island real estate? Excellent question! The short version is that Tanya Nouwens moved from the Maritimes to Ottawa for a Master’s degree in criminology. Ten years later, she met a Montrealer and moved here to marry him. Two boys, a dog, a significant career change and many moons later, the West Island has been Tanya’s home for more than 15 years.
The long version, of course, involves sordid tales of being the only anglophone crazy enough to move across the border from Ontario into Quebec days before the 1995 referendum on separation, as well as highly unbelievable stories of a woman leaving the security of a federal government job to – get this – start her own Montreal home staging company! It is not clear how much of this is true.
This much we do know about Tanya Nouwens…
Words that changed my life: Do what you love, and you won’t work a day in your life.
What I admire most: Integrity.
What I detest: Superficiality…and cauliflower.
When I dream: I see the fjords in Scandinavia. Part Viking?
I’d never: Scuba dive in caves.
Pet peeve: Kleenex in the laundry (usually mine).
My happy place: In a little cottage by the sea, with my family.
Happiest moment: First day of university, 17 years old, a thousand kilometers from home, on my own – complete freedom for the first time in my life. (Unbeknownst to me, my mom was bawling her eyes out the whole way back to New Brunswick.)
Scariest moment: Emergency C-section for my second child.
Proudest achievement: Raising two sweet, open-minded, smart, sensitive, adventurous boys with great senses of humor.
What I love most about my job: One moment I’m a mathematician, then I’m a stager (I actually am), next I’m a psychologist, followed by a writer, then a research analyst, next I’m a diplomat…
What I like least about my job: Crawl spaces!
